Welcome to the Sea Turtle Deep Dive!

Sea turtles are one of the most incredible animals on this planet. They've been swimming our oceans for over 100 million years — they outlived the dinosaurs and have barely changed in all that time. Five species nest on Florida's beaches: the Leatherback, Loggerhead, Green, Hawksbill, and Kemp's Ridley. Every single sea turtle species in Florida is either Threatened or Endangered under the federal Endangered Species Act. Florida hosts the largest loggerhead nesting population in the Western Hemisphere and is critical habitat for every Atlantic sea turtle species. In this deep dive, we'll meet all five species, learn about their nesting season, understand the federal protections they have, and learn what you can do to help them survive.
