Horseshoe crabs (Limulus polyphemus) are not actually crabs at all â they're more closely related to spiders and scorpions. They've existed virtually unchanged for 450 million years, earning the nickname 'living fossils.' Florida's beaches and shallow coastal waters are vital habitat for these ancient survivors.
