The Concept
Today, our map shows debris that has been reported. But knowing where volunteers have already searched — even when nothing was found — is just as important.
When volunteers complete a survey mission, the Survey Coverage map will record the waterway they searched. Over time this creates a living picture of where we've looked, where we haven't, and where the next mission should go.
What the Map Will Show
Surveyed Areas
Waterways that volunteers have already searched, even when no debris was found. Knowing where we've looked is just as valuable as knowing what we found.
Areas Still Needing Exploration
Waterways that have not yet been surveyed. These gaps guide the next wave of volunteer missions and partnerships.
Possible Underwater Targets
Sonar contacts and visual observations that haven't been confirmed yet. Each target is a candidate for follow-up inspection.
Recovery Priorities
Verified debris that poses the greatest risk to wildlife, habitat, or navigation — prioritized for organized recovery missions.
