Sykes Creek Kayak Clean-up
This signature annual event takes place the morning after the Merritt Island Boat Parade to collect debris and holiday refuse from the creek. It is a festive, community-driven volunteer effort aimed at restoring the waterway following the holiday celebrations.

The Sykes Creek Kayak Cleanup began after witnessing the debris left behind following the Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade in 2019. What started as a small effort to remove litter has grown into a community movement after each boat parade. Today, volunteers partner with local businesses and conservation organizations to paddle, clean, educate, and inspire others to care for one of Brevard County’s most treasured waterways.
